This blog takes its name from the primary root a plant sends down into the soil to anchor itself: the taproot. From the taproot, a plant sends out a system of threadlike roots in all directions to seek out water and nutrients. The word emerged recently in an essay on which I was working about house dreams and has since shown up in poetry drafts. It is persistent, so I am humoring it here as well. The taproot seems an auspicious metaphor for the writing process. I will send out my roots in many directions and see what returns.
